US$180 millones para el campo

Razón le sobra al presidente Abinader al reconocer a los productores agropecuarios como los agentes imprescindibles para la seguridad alimentaria, máxime en estos tiempos de inflación.

De ahí que, en ánimo de no ralentizar la maquinaria productiva, dispondrá de una asistencia financiera especial de 180 millones de dólares a fin de mejorar sustancialmente los niveles de siembra y cosecha agrícola y de la producción de carne, leche y sus derivados.

Aun cuando las importaciones de esos productos ayudan al abastecimiento del mercado, no es menos cierto que al subsidiarlas pueden desestimular los ganaderos y cosecheros nacionales.

Muchos podrían entender que les resultaría perdidoso producir en condiciones desventajosas y, entonces, entrar a importar para ganarse más de lo que logran con sus actuales costos operacionales.

No podemos vivir ni supeditarnos a las importaciones, mucho menos en un escenario internacional inestable, y en cambio, volcar todas nuestras capacidades financieras al productor nacional, porque así también se aseguran los empleos y se crean más.

Las inquietudes de los productores de cítricos frente a los riesgos que entraña la importación de frutas y otros alimentos de países atacados por plagas, constituyen razonables pruebas para apostar primero por lo nuestro.

La política más estratégica y positiva que delineó el presidente Abinader al inaugurar la Feria Agropecuaria es la de dar más recursos, asistencia técnica, infraestructuras de riego y caminos vecinales, al sector agrícola-ganadero.

Y, sin dudas, así está en el camino correcto. ¡Enhorabuena!

President Abinader has more than enough reason to recognize agricultural producers as the essential agents for food security, especially in these times of inflation.

Hence, in order not to slow down the productive machinery, it will have a special financial assistance of 180 million dollars in order to substantially improve the levels of agricultural sowing and harvesting and the production of meat, milk and its derivatives.

Even when imports of these products help to supply the market, it is no less true that by subsidizing them they can discourage national farmers and harvesters.

Many could understand that it would be losing for them to produce under disadvantageous conditions and, therefore, start importing to earn more than what they achieve with their current operating costs.

We cannot live or subordinate ourselves to imports, much less in an unstable international scenario, and instead turn all our financial capacities to the national producer, because that way jobs are also guaranteed and more are created.

The concerns of citrus producers about the risks involved in importing fruit and other foods from countries attacked by pests, constitute reasonable evidence to bet first on ours.

The most strategic and positive policy outlined by President Abinader at the inauguration of the Agricultural Fair is to give more resources, technical assistance, irrigation infrastructure and local roads, to the agricultural-livestock sector.

And, without a doubt, he is on the right track. !! Congratulations!!
